Why We Make Everything Here in New Zealand
We're a design-led company, and for us that means thinking carefully about every decision — not just what we make, but how and where we make it. Manufacturing in New Zealand isn't the easiest path, but it's the right one for the kind of work we want to do.
Here's why.
We Believe in Real Value
Global manufacturing has made it possible to produce almost anything at a very low cost. That's genuinely impressive, and there's a place for it. But for us, competing on price alone has never been the goal.
We want to make things that last — products with considered design, honest materials, and a purpose behind them. That kind of work requires control over the process, and that control is much harder to maintain from a distance.
Custom-Made Without the Compromises
One of the real advantages of manufacturing locally is flexibility. We've invested in CNC machinery and design software that allows us to offer tailored products without the lead times or minimum order quantities that come with offshore production.
If you need a specific size, finish, or configuration — we can work with that. This is what we mean by agile manufacturing: balancing customisation and speed so that a bespoke product is actually an accessible one.
Transparency as a Practice
Manufacturing locally, and with local partners wherever possible, gives us full visibility over our own operations. We know what goes into our products, where the materials come from, and how they're being processed.
We think that kind of transparency is worth pursuing for its own sake. It makes us more accountable, it makes our products better, and it gives us an honest picture of where we can still improve.
Seeing Our Own Waste
Because we make everything here, we have a clear view of what we're generating. Off-cuts, off-spec pieces, surplus material — we see all of it, and that visibility shapes how we design.
We work to minimise waste at the source, and where it does exist, we look for ways to use it. Some of our products have come directly out of that process. There's something satisfying about designing a waste stream out of existence.
A Commitment to the Kind of Future We Want
Manufacturing in New Zealand keeps skills and capability local. It shortens supply chains. It creates the kind of direct relationships with suppliers and partners where standards actually get talked about and improved.
We made a commitment to manufacturing here because we believe it's part of the kind of future we want to contribute to — not just as a business decision, but as a values one.
